Bern, 06.04.2021 - The Swiss Federal Office of Energy has launched the second call for proposals within the energy research programme SWEET (Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition), writes the Swiss Federal Council.

The main theme of this call, which has a total budget of 20 million Swiss francs, is “Living & Working". Research consortia from universities, non-profit research institutions, the private sector and the public sector can submit a pre-proposal until 16 June 2021. The focus is on efficiency measures in everyday life.

The building and mobility sectors will be considered in particular. In addition to technical measures, socio-economic aspects such as behavioural changes, technology acceptance and adaptation, new business models, incentives or investment opportunities should also be examined.Applications are open to broad-based consortia in which partners from the private sector and public bodies (cities, municipalities) can also participate.

The consortia can also submit proposals for accompanying P+D projects and further implementation measures. Up to an additional 15 million Swiss francs are available for this from the P+D programme. The call will be conducted in two stages.

The best pre-proposals submitted by 16 June 2021 will be invited to submit a full proposal. At the end, two consortia will be selected.

The call budget of 20 million Swiss francs over 8 years will be divided equally between the two. The results of the second call for proposals are expected to be announced in January 2022 and the research work will start in spring 2022.SWEET conducts rolling calls for consortium projects.

The last projects will be completed in 2032. Only consortium projects that comprehensively address central research topics of the Energy Strategy 2050 will be funded. SWEET focuses on application-oriented research and the demonstration of the results achieved.
